Michigan, the Great Lakes State, was the 26th State, added in 1837. Michigan is the 10th-largest state by population, the 11th-largest by area, and the largest by area east of the Mississippi River.
One of Michigan's best-known locations is Mackinac Island, where motor vehicles are prohibited! Many images of the state focus on the iconic Mackinac Bridge. Michigan is of course also home to Detroit, the "Motor City."
